I am a pre-final year undergraduate student at the Indian Institute
of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, India enrolled in the four year Bachelor of
Technology (B. Tech.) program in the department of Chemical
Engineering. I am writing this letter to explore the possibility of a
research project/internship with Chemical Reaction Engineering Group under
your guidance for a three month period from May to July,2012.

I am a recognized scholar of my Institute with a GPA of
3.83(Department Rank 3) in my major, which inspires me to pursue my career
as a researcher in Chemical Engineering.

Currently I am working on “Textbook Companion Project” for Open Source
Software- SCILAB.I am working on the worked out examples of ” Chemical
Reaction Engineering ” by Professor Octave Levenspiel, Department of
Chemical Engineering, Oregon State University.

My previous projects include:
1)- Modeling and Optimization of Shell and Tube Heat exchanger based on
industrial parameters using MATLAB Implementation under Professor Tapas
Mandal, Dept. of Chemical Engineering, IIT Guwahati.

2)- I did an eight week Summer Project in Indo Gulf fertilizers Ltd ,
Process Engineering Department to “ Carry out Mass and Energy balance of
the ammonia plant and calculate carbon and hydrogen losses through
Ni-Catalyst.”

I believe your Laboratory can be an ideal setting for me to learn more
about the field. Please note in my curriculum vitae that I have a
unique mix of courses in both Chemical Engineering and quantitative
sciences, namely, mathematics, computer science as well as engineering
disciplines.
