Hopefully not too late to wish congratulation to Maryam (phD student) and prof NASA for winning a best poster presentation in CHEMECA 2010 for
paper “Thermodynamic analysis of carbon dioxide reforming of
methane considering solid carbon formation”. The CHEMECA 2010 was held in Adelaide, Australia on 26-29 Sept 2010.

Good bye Mr. Haw, Thanks for your Contribution
Recently, our research officer, Mr. Haw, has left CREG to further his study. According to Mr. Haw, he will be doing hhis Ph.D somewhere in Europe. Unfortunately, I don’t have further details on the topic or location of his new university. Mr. Haw has been with CREG for about 3 months and he has contributed quite a lot to the group. Personally he has taught me several things related to chemistry, especially how to use the software to create chemical structures, which we, engineers are not used to.
New Replacement, New Energy
Mr. Haw’s position has been taken over by Yani, a CREG member who has joined since her undergraduate project. Now Yani is waiting to defense her Master’s thesis. Being with CREG for 2 seasons, she has vast experience on various research and management aspect in CREG. She’ll be around us, assisting Prof. Nor Aishah and the other CREG group member.
CREG was very honored to receive a visit by Prof. Eumora and his Research Officer/Ph.D student, Mr. Wissam Omar from Universiti Teknologi Petronas. The meeting took place in CREG Meeting room in Reaction Laboratory, First Floor from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm.
CREG members present were Prof. Dr. Nor Aishah Saidina Amin (Head of CREG), Zaki, Mahadhir, Maryam, Javaid, Yani, Huda, Nazlina and Haw. All CREG members presented their research work. It was very interesting because we received good feedbacks and recommendations from both Prof. Eumora and Mr. Wissam.

CREG Undergraduate students surprised the crowd after winning the top 3 best presenter award in the final stage contesting all 8 best presenters from 8 sections.
Professor Uemura from Universiti Teknologi Petronas will pay a visit to CREG lab on this Thursday (11 Nov 2010). The following CREG members are required to give a short presentation (about 10 min per person) on their research:

Dr. Istadi paid a short but fruitful visit on the 4th of November 2010. Dr. Istadi was a Ph.D student with CREG from 2002 to 2006 and has produced a total of 9 refereed journal within that time. It was really good to have Dr. Istadi around, even for a short time. We hope CREG can collaborate with Dr. Istadi soon in future.

A GC calibration/training by Agilent engineer was conducted on the 1st of November 2010. The training was conducted on GC #1 and #2. The training was attended by Mahadhir, Huda, Fadhzir and Zaki. The training strengthened our comprehension on how to handle and run the GC-TCD.

We are currently constructing a new pyrolysis experimental rig. The framework structure of the rig has been completed. Basically the rig is about 75% completed and is expected to be ready in mid November, complete with all relevant equipments and devices.
